Cranie – Redknapp Admits Interest By Trevor Hill
"With Alan Pardew looking for replacements to his squad following several summer departures, a loan move for Portsmouth defender Martin Cranie is looking increasingly likely. It is understood that Pardew wants at least two more defenders and Cranie fits the bill for one of them.
However, Cranie, who spent time at QPR on loan from Portsmouth lasts season, is also being sought by the Loftus Rd outfit who were obviously impressed with what he did for them last time and want a repeat deal with the South Coast side.
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp said "There have been a few clubs interested in taking Martin on loan, QPR are one, but nothing has been decided yet. It's possible, of course, but I will have to look at it.”
He went on: “I have got to make sure I don't leave myself short at the back. I cannot afford to leave the squad short. We haven't got a lot of defenders here at the moment and Martin is a versatile player." Fansonline
This is Croydon - Exclusive: Midfielder on the brink
Ben Watson is a step closer to leaving Crystal Palace after boss Neil Warnock left the midfielder out of Wednesday's friendly at Bodmin Town after confirming the club has received two fresh enquiries for the player.
The 22-year-old has long been linked with a move to QPR after rejecting a new contract that would have made him the highest paid player at the club.
Iain Dowie's side have already had a £1.25million pound bid rejected by the Selhurst Park, while Birmingham City have also expressed an interest in bringing Watson to St Andrews and Championship new boys Nottingham Forest have also been linked with a move for the midfielder.
Rumours were circulating at the beginning of this week that the Loftus Road club were preparing to table a fresh bid for the Palace academy graduate and the Eagles boss has confirmed that there has been more dialogue with regards to Watson this week with two clubs, fueling speculation that the west-London big spenders have made an improved offer for the midfielder.
Speaking to the Advertiser after the pre-season friendly at Bodmin, Warnock told the Advertiser: "We've had one or two further enquiries which was why I pulled him out tonight - I didn't want to risk him." This is Croydon
BBC - Dowie wants one or two signings
Queens Park Rangers manager Iain Dowie is still hoping for more reinforcements ahead of the Championship season.
Dowie told BBC London 94.9: "I've always said I'm very happy. It's not revolution, it's evolution. I do think we need one or two areas strengthening.
"We may be in a situation where we can bring one or two in, that may change the picture."
However, striker Daniel Nardiello is set to leave the club - either permanently or on loan.
Dowie revealed: "Daniel, I feel, is a little behind in the pecking order, I think four strikers are just a touch ahead of him. "
Meanwhile Rangers beat Northampton 1-0 on Wednesday, thanks to a Dexter Blackstock goal.
And after that game Dowie was full of praise for his squad's attitude.
He said: "Since the minute I've been here the work the lads have done in preseason has been outstanding," BBC
And as noted on QPR Report yesterday, Dominic Shimmin Trial at St. Mirren
Daily Record - St Mirren take former Arsenal youngster Dominic Shimmin on trial
ST MIRREN boss Gus MacPherson admits being impressed by young defender Dominic Shimmin after the 20-year-old stopper turned out on trial for the Buddies.
The former Arsenal and QPR rookie played as a trialist in Saints' clashes with Dumbarton and Stirling Albion after being recommended to the Love Street boss.
And MacPherson says the stopper has made an impression on him already.
"Dominic is a central defender who is strong and has a good physical presence," he told St Mirren's website.
"He was with Arsenal as a kid and through that he knows our goalkeeper Mark Howard, then he was with Queen's Park Rangers and even though he is now only twenty he has has taken part in a lot of games."He has came to us highly recommended and we were told that he was definitely worth a look at." Glasgow Record
And news about super-brief QPR loan, Jason Jarret - who was signed on a three month loan and sent back after one game:
BBC - Jarrett could have Preston future
Preston manager Alan Irvine has admitted that he has been impressed with Jason Jarrett's attitude and application during pre-season.
Jarrett, 28, has been out-of-favour at North End for almost two years.
Irvine told BBC Radio Lancashire: "He's done very well. He came back in very good condition and he's worked extremely hard in training.
"He's trying very hard to get himself a chance here. It's a huge year for him and he's got a chance."
The former Wigan midfielder last started a competitive match for Preston in the Carling Cup at Port Vale in August 2006 and since then has had loan spells with four different clubs - Hull, Leicester, QPR and Oldham.
He was transfer-listed by former manager Paul Simpson in May 2007 after spells away at Hull and Leicester.
"I said, and I meant it, at the end of the season that everyone would start afresh so he's got that opportunity and it's important from his point of view that he takes that opportunity.
"If he doesn't then clearly it will not be good for him as far as being here in concerned. But, if he does there is a chance here for him.
"I'm not looking to move Jason Jarrett out. Obviously we're Preston, and if anybody comes on making enquiries about any of our players then we have to consider their enquiry." BBC
