Managerial Advice for QPR From Danny Dichio

-
Setanta, Ciaran Baynes - Don't go for big name - Dichio

Former Queens Park Rangers striker Daniele Dichio has told setantasports.com that he wants the club to shun the big names linked to the vacant managerial position in favour of a ‘character’ such as Martin Allen.
The Toronto FC striker grew up watching the Rs on the terraces before going on to play for them, making 75 league appearances and scoring 20 goals in a four-year spell after signing on as a trainee.
The 32-year-old target-man says he still keeps a close eye on the goings on in English football, especially the events at Loftus Road following John Gregory’s sacking.
Gianluca Vialli, Glenn Hoddle, Glenn Roeder and Setanta’s own Les Ferdinand have all been linked to with the hot-seat but Dichio would rather it be given to someone with experience in the Championship.
“I'm on the computer every morning checking what's going on,” Dichio told setantasports.com in an exclusive interview. “Just checking the news and seeing what's going on at my old clubs like West Brom, Sunderland, Preston and the team I supported all my life QPR, where they're having many ins and outs at the moment.
“I think it was a matter of time (before Gregory was sacked). He did very well in keeping them up, but things haven't been gone well this season. He wasn't given the money he'd have wanted to spend.
“Now there's a big takeover and they're going to want their own guy coming in. I'm just hoping that it’s not some big name who's not going to do well for the club. “I want someone who's done something in this league, who knows it and hopefully pulls the club out of the situation they're in."
Dichio is under no illusions as to the job the new man coming in faces, but feels another former Ranger, Allen, who was dismissed as manager of Leicester after just three league games this season, is the man to lead the West London to better days.
“It would be great to see them go up but I think they're a long way off that," Dichio added. "They've had to sell some good players to keep the club afloat.
“I hope they get a manager in who gets some team spirit going, possibly like a Martin Allen, someone like that who can instill a bit of character into the team - which he's got himself - and get the team rising because they've got a good little crowd down there.
“I just hope it’s not a season where they do really badly and go down again because it hurts the club.
“Its a club I grew up supporting, so it will always be close to my heart.” Setanta
